The first step to a new career: USB and the Youth Red Cross open the way for migrants to enter the care sector

In a nursing home Deaconess Oranienburg An inspection day (SchnupperTag) was held in Bern, organized by the Association Ukraine-Switzerland Bern (USB) in cooperation with the Youth Red Cross of the Canton of Bern. The aim of the event was to support migrants, in particular from Ukraine, in finding a professional path in Switzerland and to introduce them to work in the care sector, an industry that is currently facing an acute shortage of personnel.

The day’s program was rich and focused on practical experience. Participants had the opportunity to:

  • get to know the team of employees and observe their daily work;
  • learn about working conditions, employer expectations and the internal culture of the institution;
  • receive information about internship opportunities and open vacancies.

It is important that the entire event took place in German, which gave participants a valuable opportunity to test their language skills in a real professional environment.

For many members of the Ukrainian community, this was the first step towards professional fulfillment in a new country. “It wasn’t just a day of getting to know the profession — it was a day of hope, inspiration, and the first step towards a new, worthy job,” shared one of the participants.

Through initiatives such as SchnupperTag, USB and the Youth Red Cross not only promote the integration of migrants into the labor market, but also strengthen their participation in Swiss public life, helping them to regain motivation and self-confidence.
